Fan-Made Lord of the Rings Map in Valheim Receives Major DLC

The modding team has announced the release of the Paths of the Dead expansion for the adventure map The New World in the survival game Valheim, bringing the world of The Lord of the Rings into the game. The DLC adds a new location, additional details, and immersive elements to the existing map.

The New World is a large-scale, meticulously crafted map inspired by journeys across Middle-earth. Developed over more than two years, it was designed as a linear adventure rather than a sandbox. Players can explore over 26 unique locations, detailed buildings, and paths that naturally guide them through the map to the climactic scene at Mount Doom. The map recreates iconic landscapes and themes from the films, gradually leading into more dangerous and rugged regions, creating a cohesive and living world.

The Paths of the Dead expansion recreates the legendary Paths of the Dead—a passage through the White Mountains where the restless spirits of warriors once hid. It is here that Aragorn made a pact with the ghosts, assembling an army to fight against Sauron’s forces.

The developer notes that no mods are required to play the expansion, although the project supports a recommended modpack. The map is expected to be further expanded with new locations and features in the future.

The Paths of the Dead map can be downloaded via this link. The DLC is free, but installation requires joining the developers’ Patreon.

Previously, another similar survival game, Enshrouded, received a large content update, with the developers promising a full release in 2026.
