CD Projekt RED: The New Witcher Trilogy Will Be Released Within Six Years
Diana Golenko
Polish studio CD Projekt has once again reiterated its long-term plans for the world of The Witcher. In its latest Q3 report, the company confirmed that the new trilogy, centered on Ciri, is still planned to be released within a six-year span, starting with the launch of the first game.
Narratively, the project will begin with The Witcher 4, which is already in full production. It will be followed by two additional titles, currently known as The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6. As explained by co-CEO Michal Nowakowski, the strategy remains unchanged: the gaps between releases within the trilogy will be significantly shorter than those of previous Witcher games.
In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time – as we had stated before, our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6 and so on.
A key factor in this approach is Unreal Engine 5, which CD Projekt adopted several years ago. According to Nowakowski, the studio has been working with the engine for around four years and is very satisfied with the results, both visually and in terms of production efficiency. He also pointed to the technical demo shown at Unreal Fest and highlighted the support provided by Epic Games in adapting the engine for a large-scale open-world RPG.
At the same time, no specific release window for The Witcher 4 has been announced. The studio has only confirmed that the game will not launch in 2026. This means the full trilogy will be completed sometime after 2032, despite the accelerated development cadence.
Alongside The Witcher, CD Projekt is also ramping up work on other projects, with the report noting that development of the next Cyberpunk title is gaining momentum.
Previously, CDPR confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not appear at The Game Awards 2025, despite fan expectations.
