Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Graphics Compared on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 — Key Differences Revealed

With just one day left until the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a detailed video has surfaced online showing the differences between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.
In the video, the creator compares draw distance, texture quality, resolution, load times, frame rates, and overall level of detail.
Here’s what they found:
- Nintendo Switch 2 offers two modes: Quality (60 FPS with enhanced visuals) and Performance (120 FPS). The original Switch only supports a single 60 FPS mode;
- The main differences between versions are in render resolution, texture and shadow quality, and sometimes LOD (level of detail); Otherwise, the versions are very similar—which makes sense, as the game was already deep into development for the original Switch before the Switch 2 adaptation began;
- On Switch 2, the main distinction between Quality and Performance modes is the resolution (1440p upscaled to 4K vs 1080p) and texture detail;
- Standard Switch: runs at 900p in docked mode and about 540p in handheld;
- Performance is very stable across all versions;
- Load times on Switch 2 are five times faster.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4. The game has already received its first press reviews. We’ve covered the reasons for all the hype in a separate article.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is described as a sci-fi action-adventure that continues the story of Samus Aran. The game retains the series’ signature exploration-driven structure, focusing on interconnected environments, searching for upgrades, and gradually unlocking new paths. Players can expect firefights with alien creatures, spatial puzzles, tactical use of the suit’s abilities, and scanning the environment for valuable data.
