Another Cut Scene From The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Has Surfaced Online

A previously cut scene from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been restored, showing Emperor Emhyr var Emreis personally chopping down an old tree in the Vizima palace. The episode became available thanks to the Brothers in Arms mod and is based on recovered character voice lines as well as comments from the developers.
The scene was originally planned for the game’s initial release but was removed at a late stage of development, despite the fact that full voice acting had already been recorded. Modders partially reconstructed the moment using the materials that survived.
According to the creators’ intent, the episode carried important narrative and symbolic meaning. In a dialogue with a gardener who once served under King Foltest, Emhyr emphasizes the end of Temeria and the final establishment of Nilfgaardian rule. The choice of the old tree — one that had been tended since the previous dynasty — symbolizes a decisive break with the past and the traditions of the conquered kingdom.
In addition, the scene was meant to serve as the player’s first introduction to the emperor inside the Vizima palace. It was intended to present Emhyr in a harsher, more authoritative light before transitioning to the more familiar bathhouse scene.
The restored episode offers a new perspective on the original creative plans of CD Projekt RED and fleshes out one of The Witcher 3’s key characters in more depth than in the final release.
Notably, another important cut cutscene was previously discovered in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well — one that depicted Yennefer’s betrayal of the Lodge of Sorceresses.
