IO Interactive Shows New Gameplay for Stealth-Action Game 007 First Light

Studio IO Interactive has released the first episode of Beyond the Light, a behind-the-scenes series dedicated to the development of 007 First Light. In this episode, the team breaks down gameplay and stealth mechanics in detail while addressing common player questions.

The developers emphasize that stealth in the game is built around player choice: players can use bluffing to de-escalate conflicts, take multiple paths through missions, and improvise, drawing inspiration from Hitman mechanics adapted for a young James Bond. Enemies can detect disguises, and the environment visually highlights interactive objects to facilitate quick decision-making.

Combat is dynamic and focused on improvisation: melee fights utilize environmental elements — fire extinguishers, explosions, and other interactive objects — while ranged combat is based on a “reactive shooting” mechanic, where players can only fire after the enemy attacks. Gadgets, including lasers, smoke bombs, and hacking devices, allow players to handle situations remotely, with at least three solutions available for each challenge.

The episode’s levels are visually striking, informative, and guide the player forward while balancing stealth and combat. Driving sequences — both high-speed chases and calmer segments — are also included to help players fully step into the role of Agent 007.

007 First Light is set to release on March 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The developers have also mentioned that they are pleased with the decision to move a major competitor, GTA 6, to the fall season.
