Eidos Montreal Secretly Helped Develop OD Until Kojima Demanded the Team Move to Japan

A new report from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has revealed an unusual collaboration between Eidos Montreal and Kojima Productions. According to sources, the studio spent about a year working on Hideo Kojima’s new project — OD (formerly known as Overdose) — before part of the team received an unexpected request to relocate to Japan.
According to insiders, OD was in development at Eidos Montreal throughout 2023 under the internal codename P21. However, the collaboration ended after Kojima Productions asked for the participating developers to be moved to Japan, effectively cutting ties with Eidos Montreal. At the time, around 20 developers were working on the project.
Kojima officially unveiled the game as OD during The Game Awards 2023. The developer noted that it would be something people will either love or hate. In September 2025, a new teaser titled Knock was released.
However, production has faced major setbacks. Filming was postponed to 2026 due to the prolonged SAG-AFTRA video game strike (2024–2025). Then, on November 23, 2025, actor Udo Kier, who was set to play one of the key roles in OD, passed away at the age of 81.
For now, OD has no release date. All that’s known is that the project is being published by Xbox Game Studios and is currently navigating a series of delays and organizational complications. With the termination of the Eidos Montreal collaboration and the difficulties of the past year, the development of OD appears to be moving along a very winding path.
It has also been reported that Eidos Montreal is working on an unannounced open-world action game together with the Shadow of the Tomb Raider team, planned for release in 2026.
