A Mysterious Elder Scrolls Trademark Filing Has Stirred Up Fans Of The Series

The Elder Scrolls community is once again sensing the faint aroma of hopium. A Reddit user going by FollowerOfSithis38, who dug through the global WIPO trademark database, has discovered a new filing related to the name The Elder Scrolls — and it stands out sharply from all the previous ones.

First, the application was filed and approved in November of this year, which is highly unusual for trademarks that typically take months or even years to process. Second, the mark type is listed as “combined,” meaning Bethesda has registered not just the title or logo, but an entire package of brand elements — an approach usually reserved for major gaming projects.

Even more intriguing is the set of NICE classifications: 9, 41, and 42. The Elder Scrolls trademarks normally use only two of them (9 and 41), but including all three suggests involvement with software, development, publishing, and technological services — the same combination used for Starfield and Creation Club.

On top of that, this is the first Elder Scrolls–related filing since March 2023. Back then, Bethesda submitted a large batch of trademarks, many of which remain pending to this day. The new registration appeared suddenly, was processed unusually fast, and doesn’t look like a renewal — there’s no need for one, as all existing marks are still active.

These coincidences are fueling fan expectations. The Game Awards are just days away, and it was at that very show that Skyrim was first revealed. Some believe Bethesda may be preparing an updated look at TES 6 or at least an announcement related to the series’ technology or services. It’s all speculation for now, but the filing is unusual enough to attract attention.

At the moment, the community sees two possibilities: either Bethesda is preparing something connected to The Elder Scrolls (technology, engine work, a new TES 6 teaser), or another project set in the universe is in development.

Still, Todd Howard recently commented on the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 — and fans will need to remain patient.
