Skate Story Launches on Steam and Consoles — Critics Give It a Thumbs Up

The unique skateboarding adventure Skate Story has officially launched on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Published by Devolver Digital and developed by Sam Eng, the game is already making waves with its distinctive style and gameplay.
Skate Story is described as a stylized skateboarding adventure where you play as a demon tasked with skating through the nine circles of the underworld, pulling off tricks and navigating dangerous terrain.
Players can master over seventy different skate tricks, explore surreal landscapes filled with ramps, ledges, and demonic enemies, interact with other characters, and rescue tortured souls. Upgrading your skills and gear allows you to steadily improve your skating abilities, while a hypnotic soundtrack creates a unique atmosphere as you journey through otherworldly streets.

Skate Story is the perfect skateboarding game for your friend who always says they’re working on a screenplay but never actually gets around to finishing it. Or maybe that’s you. Or maybe that’s me. Or maybe it’s just perfect for everyone. You’ll be moved, you’ll bump to the incredible music, and most importantly: you’ll shred.
A skateboarding sim which transcends the genre through its dazzling psychedelic presentation, smart design, and comedic lightness of touch.
While it lasts, this is quite easily the most strikingly unique and visually interesting skating game you can play, and we can't help but respect its relentless effort to go against the grain.
With its ridiculous story, unique visuals and brilliant soundtrack, there's a lot to like about Skate Story. Its gameplay is the weakest link here, though, with fiddly controls and other issues introducing a level of frustration that might push some players away.
Skate Story is a beautiful and unique skateboarding game with great, stylized visuals and interesting characters. The movement might make you queasy and the skateboarding element could have been developed further, but it does a lot with its premise and refuses to pander to convention, which is refreshing. A wonderful creation, but not always a great game.
At the time of writing, Skate Story holds an average score of 81 on Metacritic.
