Frictional Games, the studio behind SOMA and the Amnesia series, has announced their next project: ONTOS. The game is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and the developers have already unveiled the first trailer.
Described as a science fiction adventure, ONTOS follows Aditi Amani as she travels to the lunar base “Samsara” to unravel the mysterious legacy of her prophet-father. Reality on the station is unstable, with the past blending into illusions, and her search for the truth leads her to existential questions about the nature of consciousness and existence.
The game blends narrative with systemic gameplay, challenging players to find materials, interact with analog devices, fine-tune equipment, and make decisions with lasting consequences. Through various experiments, players will face moral dilemmas and events that gradually reveal the hidden structure of the world.
“Uncover the truth behind strange experiments at the repurposed lunar hotel Samsara, survive unsettling encounters, and slowly piece together the mystery, until you’re faced with the ultimate question: What is reality?” — official description
Exploring Samsara means journeying through reimagined locations where labs sit next to former casinos, experimental zones border drained pools, and technical systems intertwine with ancient caves. Every space tells its own story and adds to the larger narrative.
The game already has a Steam page.
