Control Resonant, first announced at TGA 2025, is set to be a direct sequel to Control, but with a dramatic genre shift: instead of a “cinematic shooter with office demolition,” Remedy is crafting a demonic slasher in the vein of Devil May Cry, with RPG elements, set in a distorted Manhattan. The game is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and is positioned as both a continuation of the story and a welcoming entry point into the wider Remedy universe.

The events of Control Resonant unfold seven years after the conclusion of the original game: FBC’s isolation protocols have failed, the Hiss has broken free from the Oldest House, and is now engulfing New York—literally folding the city into surreal, impossible shapes. At the heart of the story is Dylan Faden, Jesse’s younger brother, who awakens from a coma to find himself at the epicenter of a paranatural disaster. He sets out across a warped Manhattan, now cut off from the rest of the world, in search of his missing sister.

The developers emphasize that, despite being a sequel, Control Resonant is designed as a standalone adventure—you can jump in without playing the first game, then catch up on the lore by playing Control and Alan Wake. At the same time, longtime Remedy fans can expect plenty of references and connections within the shared universe, giving FBC, Hiss, and Bright Falls enthusiasts plenty of material for theories.

The biggest change is in the gameplay: instead of the hybrid shooter-telekinesis formula, Control Resonant focuses on fast, aggressive melee combat. Dylan wields a brutal, multi-purpose weapon called Aberrant, which shifts forms and combines with his paranormal abilities, turning battles into a slasher experience centered on combos, mobility, and a “push-forward” style of play.

RPG mechanics take center stage: Remedy describes the game as an “action-adventure RPG,” where building your character is just as important as quick reflexes. Players will be able to develop Dylan’s skills, specialize in different elements and Aberrant configurations, and experiment with a variety of builds to survive in a reality constantly reshaped by paranatural forces.

Instead of a traditional open world, Control Resonant offers large, semi-open zones of Manhattan, filled with secrets, branching paths, and side activities. Visually and thematically, the game draws inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s Inception and Evangelion—borrowing the concept of a city warped by forces beyond human comprehension, and the struggle of isolated individuals against cosmic horror as reality itself unravels.
