Hideo Kojima Calls Death Stranding 2 His Best Work — and Explains Why
Game designer Hideo Kojima has said that he considers Death Stranding 2: On the Beach to be his most important work to date. He shared this in an interview with Wired while answering questions from fans around the world.
According to Kojima, the choice has nothing to do with comparing the new game to classic projects like Metal Gear Solid. The reason, by his own admission, is much simpler — and fundamental.
My latest work is my masterpiece. So right now, that’s Death Stranding 2.
The developer did not mention other games from his career and emphasized that he always evaluates himself through the lens of his current project. Each new release represents a peak at a specific moment in time, rather than the final sum of his entire career.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released in June and serves as a direct sequel to the original Death Stranding. It is one of the key projects of Kojima Productions, the studio Kojima founded after his departure from Konami.
Kojima has previously said that he dislikes dwelling on past successes and prefers to keep moving forward — which is why his next project will likely take the place of his “best work” as soon as it is completed.
Not long ago, the game designer also returned to one of his earlier works to explain what it was really about.
