“Love, Demons, and Brutal Violence”: Story Trailer Released for Romeo Is a Dead Man by Goichi Suda
Grasshopper Manufacture and director Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51, have unveiled a story trailer for their new action game Romeo Is a Dead Man. This marks the studio’s first new IP in ten years, following No More Heroes 3.
According to the story, the protagonist Romeo Stargazer falls in love with a mysterious girl named Juliet, but is attacked by a demonic entity and nearly killed. At the last moment, Romeo’s uncle — a brilliant scientist named Benjamin — travels back in time and saves his nephew by fitting him with the Dead Gear mask. This intervention creates a time paradox that begins to tear apart the space-time continuum.
Now stuck between life and death, Romeo becomes a special FBI space-time agent under the codename Dead Man. He is tasked with hunting down the most dangerous criminals across the multiverse — and finding the missing Juliet, who is somehow connected to the catastrophe that shattered reality.
Suda revealed that one of the core inspirations came from Back to the Future: what if Marty McFly had died? In that scenario, Doc Brown would have gone back in time to save him — exactly what Benjamin does for Romeo. The game also draws inspiration from FBI-themed TV series and films by Quentin Tarantino.
In combat, Romeo wields katanas and firearms, and can absorb enemies’ blood to activate a special attack called Bloody Summer. Weapons can be upgraded and modified throughout the game. Romeo Is a Dead Man is set to release on February 11, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
