The Witcher 3 Now Has Fan-Made Online Multiplayer

Players of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can finally explore the Continent together. A massive fan-made project called Witcher Online has just been released, bringing true multiplayer functionality to the acclaimed CD Projekt Red RPG.

The mod, created by developer rejuvenate, is built using REDkit and has reached version 1.0. According to the description, Witcher Online lets players join dedicated servers, travel across the open world, complete quests cooperatively, chat, and even roleplay using in-game emotes.

The mod supports character customization through the Custom Player Characters add-on and works with Chill Out, which adds social hubs like taverns. To play, users need a legitimate copy of The Witcher 3 updated to version 4.04 or newer on Steam or GOG, as pirated versions are not supported.

Currently, the project includes one global server, allowing players to see and interact with each other in real time. The author notes that movement can still appear slightly choppy, but assures that the system works and will be improved over future updates. A detailed setup guide is available in the official documentation, and the mod itself can be downloaded via this link.

Witcher Online remains in early development, yet its potential has already impressed the modding community. The creator admits that progress has slowed due to lack of time and motivation, but encourages community contributions to help the project evolve faster.

Interestingly, this news surfaces amid rumors of a possible third DLC for The Witcher 3, which might have taken players to desert regions filled with dragons — reminiscent of the expansion-sized Blood and Wine.
