The new Fable reportedly won’t remain exclusive to PC and Xbox and is also being developed for PlayStation 5. According to several media reports, the reboot of the cult RPG franchise is being built as a multi-platform release.
Fable was originally announced back in 2020 during the Xbox Games Showcase as a fresh start for the series once led by Lionhead, but it still doesn’t have even a tentative release window. The project is handled by Playground Games, and Fable is regarded as one of Xbox’s major flagship launches that the company is banking on for 2026.
A recent VGC article focused on the January Xbox Developer Direct claims that Fable is also in development for PS5. In light of Xbox’s new multi-platform strategy, this move no longer seems far-fetched, as several major titles from Microsoft’s ecosystem have released on or been announced for PS5 in recent years. The PS5 version would likely arrive around a year after the PC and Xbox launch, in line with common practice.
Officially, Fable is still only announced for PC and Xbox Series consoles, and any talk of a PS5 version remains in the realm of rumor. The upcoming Xbox Developer Direct is expected to showcase a substantial new look at the game — and could finally bring a release date. Some earlier reports from last summer suggested that the project might not arrive until 2027.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Xbox is gearing up for a huge 2026, which is why Microsoft opted not to wrap up last year with a traditional year-end recap, instead saving its marketing push. The January Xbox Developer Direct is also set to feature a mysterious fourth “secret” game, which has yet to be officially revealed.
