Red Dead Redemption Mobile Stats Revealed
New analytics from Appmagic have revealed the first five weeks of performance for the mobile port of Red Dead Redemption. Since its release on December 2 for iOS and Android, the game has highlighted a massive divide between subscription-based gaming and traditional premium purchases.
The standalone premium version, which retails for a steep $40, has only seen approximately 10,750 purchases, generating roughly $430,000 in revenue for Rockstar Games. For perspective, top-tier mobile earners like Clash of Clans can generate that amount of revenue in a single day.
However, the story is completely different for the Netflix Games version. The title surpassed 3.3 million downloads through the streaming service, making it one of the platform’s biggest hits since the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition.
Despite the low sales numbers for the $40 version, Red Dead Redemption is actually outperforming many of its AAA peers on mobile. In its first month, the mobile port of Resident Evil 2 generated only about $100,000, and Assassin's Creed Mirage was reportedly purchased by fewer than 3,000 people.
The mobile version of Red Dead Redemption is a complete edition of the open-world western, specifically optimized for smartphones and tablets. The package includes all the original bonus content from the GOTY edition as well as the Undead Nightmare expansion.
In other news from the franchise, eagle-eyed players recently discovered a brand-new easter egg in Red Dead Redemption 2 seven years after its launch. Additionally, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser recently discussed how Victorian novels played a key role in shaping the worlds of both GTA and RDR.
