Crimson Desert Promises Native 4K/60 FPS With Ray Tracing — No DLSS or FSR Required

In a recent interview with Destin Legarie, Pearl Abyss studio director Will Powers revealed that Crimson Desert will be able to run at native 4K and 60 frames per second without relying on upscalers like DLSS or FSR — and even with ray tracing enabled. According to him, the team achieved this thanks to Pearl Abyss’ own engine, as off-the-shelf solutions simply could not handle the tasks they had in mind.

Yeah, we’ll show 4K 60 native, sure, with ray tracing on, that’s not done through DLSS or FSR, that’s done natively in-engine.

The developer clarified that such performance will, of course, require extremely powerful hardware, since even top-end graphics cards often struggle with native 4K in modern games. Nonetheless, the very fact of this claim stands out in an era where upscaling has become an almost mandatory standard for AAA projects.

Powers did not go into detail about the console modes, but he did confirm that there will be enhancements for PS5 Pro. In his words, it was the decision to move away from third‑party engines and build their own technology that allowed the studio to squeeze the maximum out of the project.

Pearl Abyss emphasizes that after the game went gold, the team fully shifted its focus to final optimization. And if these promises are fulfilled, Crimson Desert’s technical state could become a pleasant exception against the backdrop of the many troubled launches we’ve seen from big-budget games.

Crimson Desert is set to release on March 19 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier, a large overview trailer was released, revealing plenty of fresh gameplay details.
