Rayman Returns? Michel Ancel Confirms Remake In Development
Game designer Michel Ancel accidentally confirmed rumors of a remake of the first Rayman and revealed early details of a project that will likely carry the subtitle Anniversary Edition.
In an interview with Retro Gamer tied to the franchise's 30th anniversary, Ancel, who is serving as a consultant on new Ubisoft projects, effectively acknowledged the remake's existence:
There's a kind of remake planned. I don't remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that just to make it a bit less frustrating.
Beyond confirming the project, Ancel also disclosed key technical details: the updated version will support high resolution and include a number of improvements, such as new checkpoints meant to make the game more approachable for modern players. From the description, the forthcoming release may turn out to be more of a remaster in the vein of Digital Eclipse's work rather than a full ground-up remake. An official announcement is expected in the near future.
Earlier, the unannounced Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition received an age rating in Australia.
