Konami unveiled Castlevania: Belmont's Curse during State of Play — a brand-new entry in the franchise celebrating its 40th anniversary. The game is set to launch in 2026 on modern platforms.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a new title focused on the vampire-hunting Belmont clan. Based on the name, the project appears to be a remake or reimagining of the classic Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (1989), which first introduced Trevor Belmont — the first man to defeat Count Dracula. In the original 1989 game, Trevor joined forces with freedom fighter Grant Danasty, mage Sypha Belnades, and Dracula’s son Alucard to stop the genocide of humanity.

Konami is keeping details under wraps — it remains unclear whether this will be a faithful remake, a brand-new story, or something in between. The year 2026 is symbolic for the franchise: it marks 40 years since the first Castlevania released on the Famicom in 1986. The last mainline entry in the series, Lords of Shadow 2, launched in 2014, after which the franchise largely went dormant, aside from the Netflix series and mobile titles.

Insiders previously reported that a big-budget Castlevania project was in development, describing it as a “reimagining” with modern graphics. Konami has been actively reviving its classic IPs — Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater released to strong reviews, Silent Hill has received multiple new projects, and today the company also announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.
