Diablo 3 Is Still Alive? Blizzard Says Millions Are Still Playing

While most players are focused on Diablo 4 and the latest updates for Diablo 2: Resurrected, Blizzard has reminded everyone of one thing: Diablo 3 is still very much alive — and doing more than fine.
In an interview, Diablo Legacy executive producer Matthew Cederquist said that reports about the third game’s declining player base are greatly exaggerated.
There are actually still millions of people playing Diablo 3. Even after the release of Diablo 4, part of the audience moved there, but Diablo 3 still has a huge player base.
According to him, the Diablo ecosystem sees constant player “migration.” Fans often return to Diablo 3 at the start of a new season, then switch to Diablo 4 or Diablo 2 — and sometimes back again. Blizzard intentionally staggers seasonal launches so the games don’t compete directly with one another.
Former franchise lead Rod Fergusson previously noted that at one point Diablo 2: Resurrected had more active players than Diablo 3. In fact, reports suggest that the remaster is currently even outperforming Diablo 4 in certain metrics. However, Cederquist emphasized that such spikes are tied to specific updates and don’t reflect the broader long-term picture.
Blizzard hasn’t shared exact numbers, but the phrase “millions of players” sounds like a direct response to claims that Diablo 3 has long been overshadowed by newer entries.
Are you still playing Diablo? Which one are you into right now — and which entry have you spent the most time with?
