Divinity Follows Baldur’s Gate 3’s Path: Fans Fixate on “Spicy” Trailer Scenes, Larian Stats Show

Michael Douse, Publishing Director at Larian Studios, has shared what he jokingly described as “very important findings” from internal YouTube analytics.

It turns out the two most rewatched moments from the Divinity trailer are scenes featuring a ritualistic orgy involving humans and lizardfolk. Douse posted a screenshot of a developer chat with the caption “Very important findings,” clearly poking fun at the predictability of the fanbase.

The Divinity trailer premiered at The Game Awards in December 2025 and quickly became a meme thanks to its provocative pagan ritual scene, complete with strong sexual undertones set against a burning sacrifice. The moment directly echoes the infamous bear scene from Baldur’s Gate 3, which went viral in summer 2023. Larian clearly understands what grabs attention — and fans are once again proving the formula works.

History is repeating itself: after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio also noticed that players were repeatedly rewatching romantic and erotic companion scenes. Larian has never shied away from using provocative content as a marketing tool — and judging by YouTube statistics, it’s more effective than any traditional ad campaign. Douse regularly jokes about the phenomenon, fully aware that the audience values not just gameplay, but also the expressive freedom present in the studio’s games.

An early access release could happen in 2027, though nothing has been officially confirmed. This marks Larian’s first major RPG since the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which sold over 10 million copies in its first month and won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023.
