Top 5 Best-Selling Games in the U.S. (January 2026, All Platforms):

This marks the second consecutive month Black Ops 7 has led the charts — it also ranked No. 1 in December 2025. However, despite dropping to fifth place in January, Battlefield 6 remains the overall best-selling game of 2025 in the United States. It’s the first time in history that a Battlefield title has outsold Call of Duty across a full year — marking CoD’s weakest annual performance since 2008, when Call of Duty: World at War finished seventh in the U.S. charts.

Top 5 Best-Selling Games in the U.S. for Full-Year 2025:

Battlefield 6’s success in 2025 is attributed to strong player reception and a powerful launch, with 7 million copies sold shortly after its October 2025 release. Analysts also suggest that Black Ops 7’s availability on Xbox Game Pass may have reduced its direct sales.

In January 2026, however, the situation shifted. Battlefield 6 faced criticism over its underwhelming

Season 2 and lack of content, contributing to declining sales.

Interestingly, platform breakdowns show differing performance. On PlayStation, Black Ops 7 ranked first, while Battlefield 6 placed fifth. On Xbox, NBA 2K26 led the charts, Battlefield 6 came in third, and Black Ops 7 only reached sixth. On PC, Code Vein II unexpectedly claimed the top spot, with Battlefield 6 in third and Black Ops 7 in fourth.

Overall U.S. video game spending in January 2026 rose 3% compared to January 2025. Growth was driven by subscription services (up 23%) and console sales (up 16%), with PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 emerging as the best-selling hardware of the month.

Can Call of Duty hold onto the top spot in February, or will Battlefield 6 reclaim it after its Season 2 updates?
