Amazon has refused to publish an open-world AAA racing game from the authors of Forza Horizon
Amazon Game Studios has refused to publish an open-world AAA racing game from the authors of the Forza Horizon series. This is reported by The Game Business publication.
Maverick Games is a UK-based studio founded by racing game veterans in 2022. The company was co-founded by Mike Brown, former creative director of the Forza Horizon series.
Maverick Games first project was supposed to be an open-world racing game. The release was planned for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
"As part of our strategic evolution to focus on projects that leverage Amazon’s unique strengths and scale, including the recent re-launch of Luna and our Tomb Raider franchise partnership with Crystal Dynamics, we have decided to release Maverick Games from their publishing agreement with Amazon Game Studios".
Amazon said they respect Maverick Games. However, now developers have the opportunity to find a publisher whose strategic priorities better match the task of bringing the game to market, Amazon is confident.
Maverick Games said they were grateful to Amazon for their cooperation.
"Development of our debut title continues to progress as strongly as planned. We’re in active dialogue with partners who share our long-term ambition for the IP and look forward to sharing more later this year".
Recall that last week it became known that the Midsummer Studios studio, founded by XCOM creator Jake Solomon, was closed. Before that, the developers shared the gameplay of their main project, the Burbank life simulator.
