It became known how many remasters and remakes of old games were downloaded in 2025
Remakes and remasters are one of the most important aspects of the gaming industry. Last year, updated versions of old games were downloaded 138 million times. This is reported by GameSpot with reference to the research.
Of the total downloads, 60 million were remakes, and 78 million were remasters. Among the remakes, the leader was Delta Force, which has been downloaded 14.5 million times. This is a shooter game that takes place in 1993 and tells the story of a US special forces unit that is sent to Somalia.
In second place among the remakes is Ark: Survival Ascended, which has 4.35 million downloads. This is a reinterpretation of ARK: Survival Evolved, made on the Unreal Engine 5. The plot is built around a huge island inhabited by dinosaurs. The player's goal is to survive at any cost.
The following top positions among remakes look like this:
- Metro 2033 Redux — 3.89 million;
- The Last of Us Part 1 — 3.02 million;
- Resident Evil 4 — 2.70 million;
- Silent Hill 2 — 2.62 million;
- Mafia: Definitive Edition — 2.12 million;
- Resident Evil 2 — 1.73 million;
- Pac-Man World Re-Pac — 1.52 million;
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — 1.39 million.
Among the remasters, Grand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced proved to be the best, with 13.1 million downloads. This is an improved version of the classic GTA 5, released in 2025.
The second place is taken by The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, which has been downloaded 8.03 million times. The developers have completely redesigned the graphics of the original The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, improved the AI of the characters, as well as adapted the interface to modern requirements.
The rest of the rating positions among remasters are as follows:
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered — 3.82 million;
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — 2.72 million;
- The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition — 2.49 million;
- Gears of War: Reloaded — 2.48 million;
- The Last of Us Part 2 — 2.34 million;
- Ninja Gaiden 2 Black — 2.13 million;
- Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition — 1.91 million;
- Sonic Colors: Ultimate — 1.69 million.
