For years, PlayStation fans have been practically begging Sony and FromSoftware for a modernized version of Bloodborne. Bluepoint Games—the studio that delivered the stunning Demon’s Souls remake—seemed like the perfect candidate for the job. However, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, FromSoftware reportedly turned down the proposal to move forward with the project.

For a long time, staff at Bluepoint Games reportedly viewed a Bloodborne remake as an inevitability. In 2025, following the cancellation of an untitled multiplayer project set in the God of War universe, the studio officially pitched the remake to Sony leadership. Unfortunately, FromSoftware didn't share the enthusiasm. While Schreier didn't provide specific reasons for the rejection, a theory from former PlayStation Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida has resurfaced. In 2025, Yoshida suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki holds Bloodborne so close to his heart that if he can’t oversee a remake personally due to his busy schedule, he simply refuses to entrust it to an outside developer.

This news follows the recent revelation that Sony has decided to shutter Bluepoint Games. According to Schreier, the closure stems from a loss of confidence; Sony reportedly doubted whether a studio that had spent years focusing solely on remakes could successfully deliver a high-quality original title. The insider also noted that the cancelled God of War project was intended to follow Atreus through the underworld, but the team struggled to find a compelling hook for its co-op gameplay.

What do you think? Is Miyazaki right to keep Bloodborne under lock and key, or should he let another studio take a crack at it?
