Ezio as a Mentor and a Contortionist for Mocap: New Rumors Paint Assassin’s Creed Hexe as Ubisoft Montreal’s Dream Project

Insider Tom Henderson has shared a new batch of rumors about Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, which many developers at Ubisoft Montreal reportedly consider the studio’s most exciting project for the coming years.

According to Henderson, Hexe’s combat system is being completely overhauled, with a strong emphasis on acrobatic moves and unconventional body positions — to the point that Ubisoft allegedly hired a professional contortionist for motion capture sessions. This is meant to highlight the witch‑like, “unnatural” movement of the female protagonist and set Hexe apart from the more traditional combat style of previous entries.

The insider also claims that, in early stages of development, Ubisoft planned to introduce Ezio Auditore roughly halfway through the game. The legendary Assassin was supposed to appear as a mentor, teaching the heroine the “ways of the Brotherhood,” though Henderson says it’s unclear whether this idea has survived into the current version of the script.

Henderson describes Hexe as “the” project that nearly everyone at Ubisoft Montreal wants to work on, saying the game looks so promising internally that developers from other teams are eager to join the staff. Against the backdrop of a difficult period for Ubisoft, that sounds like a rare positive sign.

As for timing, the insider says Ubisoft is currently aiming for a holiday 2027 release window, positioning Hexe as the next major Assassin’s Creed after Shadows and the end of the current generation’s slate. However, this optimism is tempered by recent news that the project’s creative director has left the team, which may yet impact the final schedule.
