Activision has announced Black Ops Royale, a brand-new battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Warzone, inspired by Blackout from Black Ops 4 and available for free to all players. The mode launches on March 13, coinciding with the major Black Ops 7 update.

Black Ops Royale takes place on the new Avalon map and is designed for 100 players split into 25 squads of four. Players drop into the action zone in wingsuits, armed only with a pistol and minimal armor, making them fully reliant on loot. There are no loadouts, Gulag, cash, or buy stations—every weapon and piece of gear must be found and upgraded on the map. Each weapon comes with a set “archetype” and a pre-selected set of five attachments. Weapon rarity increases through special Attachment Kits, unlocking more attachment slots and class-specific perks as you progress, all the way up to legendary and exotic tiers.

The perk system in Black Ops Royale has also been reworked: instead of fixed slots, players pick up consumable bonuses and activate them as needed, sharing them with squadmates. Iconic gadgets and abilities from Blackout return to the arsenal, including the grappling hook, motion sensor, RC-XD, Trauma Kit, and multi-layered armor vests. Avalon offers a mix of dense urban areas, open spaces, and sandbars connecting islands for fast movement, with ground, water, and air vehicles available for navigation. Instead of the classic gas ring, the mode uses the “Collapse”—a dynamic electric field that sets the pace of the match and constantly shifts the location of the final circles.

Adding even more depth, Black Ops Royale features dynamic activities and the Cradle Breaches system. Side objectives like target hunts, safe cracking, relay capture, supply drops, and tower re-entry challenges spawn across the map, offering valuable loot and tactical advantages. Cradle Breaches cover parts of Avalon in red gas, creating hallucinogenic zones filled with zombie hordes, a special Mangler boss, and secret Mystery Boxes containing top-tier weapons, armor, and rare rewards—only those brave enough to enter the anomaly and survive the chaos inside will reap the benefits.

Black Ops Royale is fully integrated with Black Ops 7 and Warzone progression: through events, challenges, and the special Counter Skies Event Pass (March 17 – April 2), players can unlock new weapons, attachments, camos, and operator skins.
