Is it a bad situation for Sony? The beta test of Horizon Hunters Gathering did not interest the players

From February 27 to March 1, a closed beta test of the multiplayer game Horizon Hunters Gathering was held. It seems that the audience was almost not interested in the game, because the maximum number of simultaneous players could not exceed 600.

Hunters Gathering is a cooperative game set in the Horizon universe from Sony. The project features a cartoon style and missions designed for three players. As part of the testing, gamers were offered to try out several hunters: Sun, Rem, and Axel.

Among the available modes were Machine Incursion — classic survival against waves of machines — and Cauldron Descent, which focuses on step-by-step exploration of Cauldrons.

It wasn't difficult to get access to the testing. Invitations were received by users registered in the PlayStation beta testing program and residing in Europe or North America. In the case of a PC, it was possible to join the testing via Steam.

Horizon Hunters Gathering did not arouse much interest. According to SteamDB, the online peak occurred at the opening of the beta testing, when a little more than 560 people launched the game at the same time. The very next day, online players dropped to 300, and on March 1, the figures did not rise above 273.

Probably, the situation may be more optimistic on consoles, but there is no data on online PlayStation.

If we talk about the PC, the reason for the low interest could be the testing of Marathon, which took place on the same days and attracted more than 143 000 players.
