'People Just Weren’t Ready': Fallout 4 and Starfield Composer Believes Bethesda’s RPG Will Become Legendary Over Time

Despite mixed reactions from players and critics, the space RPG Starfield could eventually become one of Bethesda’s cult classics. At least, that’s the opinion of composer Inon Zur, who worked on the game’s soundtrack.

In an interview with RPGSite, he spoke about his collaboration with Bethesda director Todd Howard and described him as one of the most creative people in the industry.

Todd is one of the most creative and inspiring people in the industry. He knows how to give creative freedom while still guiding it toward his own vision. He’s a visionary. He sees things that people only begin to understand years later.

According to the composer, a similar situation may happen with Starfield. He believes that when the game launched, many players simply weren’t ready for what Bethesda was trying to do.

When Starfield came out, people just weren’t ready for it. It’s a different perspective, but Todd is very confident in his approach. He would calmly say: “If you don’t like it, then you don’t like it — but this is the new thing we’re doing, and we’re going to stick to it.” He believes in his path, and time and time again it shows that eventually people begin to understand his vision.

The composer is confident that perceptions of the game may change over time.

Starfield will ultimately become something legendary. I have no doubt about it. It’s only a matter of time.
— Inon Zur

Interestingly, Howard himself admitted that in Starfield the company moved away from its usual formula, which it plans to return to in TES 6.

Starfield launched on September 6, 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game received generally positive reviews from critics, though player feedback proved more restrained. After release, Bethesda launched the major expansion Shattered Space, but the project has yet to achieve the same cultural impact as Skyrim or Fallout 4. A PS5 release and a major update are also expected in the near future, which many already refer to as Starfield 2.0. Some believe it could become Bethesda’s equivalent of Phantom Liberty, although Howard himself has asked fans not to expect too much.
