Layoffs Hit Gotham Knights Developer WB Games Montreal Following Paramount Merger
Several employees at the Canadian studio Warner Bros. Games Montreal have reported being laid off. While there has been no official confirmation from management yet, former staff across various departments have posted on LinkedIn seeking new opportunities. According to many of those affected, their final day at the studio was Friday, March 13th.
The situation aligns with recent forecasts from Netflix’s Ted Sarandos. He previously noted that the deal which saw Paramount beat out his company to seize control of Warner Bros. (including its gaming division) would necessitate "radical cost-cutting."
Warner Bros.' gaming business has been in a period of turbulence for some time. According to the Q1 2025 financial report, gaming revenue plummeted by 48% due to a lack of major releases. This follows a string of setbacks: the cancellation of Hogwarts Legacy DLC, layoffs at Rocksteady after the failure of Suicide Squad, the cancellation of Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman project, and the end of support for MultiVersus. In its latest report, Warner Bros. Discovery called 2025 a "significant year" but gave little attention to its gaming segment, only mentioning a "restructuring" of the production cycle following the Paramount Skydance merger.
Warner Bros. Games Montreal is best known for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights. Notably, the Denuvo DRM was recently removed from the latter.
It was previously reported that Paramount acquired Warner Bros. for $110 billion.
