Bethesda, while developing Starfield, did not even try to make something similar to Mass Effect. This was told by artist Istvan Pely, who worked on a space RPG, and previously on Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and other studio games.

According to Istvan Pely, it is hardly possible to compare with BioWare in the matter of creating a galaxy.

"We made a conscious decision to set the game in a real chunk of the galaxy. We were never going to do Mass Effect and create nine beautiful, complete planets, because that's not the game we were making. We could never fill the space between with all this content. It's impossible".

At the same time, Bethesda has been actively working to improve the systems to bring the content to the player. Istvan Peli believes that for those who liked Starfield, it works. They understand that the vastness of space is part of the overall concept.

In this case, Bethesda's goal is not to provide players with a huge number of perfectly created planets, but to figure out how to help them get to know the part of space around which Starfield is being built.

Apparently, Starfield is getting a second chance now. Recently, Bethesda announced the release of Starfield on PlayStation 5 and talked about a major update that many were waiting for as version 2.0.
