Pokemon Pokopia has become the highest-rated game of the year on Metacritic, surpassing Resident Evil Requiem

After a long and exhausting battle, the cozy Pokemon spin-off has finally overtaken Resident Evil Requiem in the race for the title of the highest-rated game of 2026, according to critics.

] based on 101 reviews, while Resident Evil Requiem sits at 89 based on 131 reviews. Over the past few weeks, the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and Capcom’s multiplatform blockbuster kept trading places at the top of the aggregator’s ranking. But it now seems that Pokopia has firmly secured the lead. A similar situation can be seen on OpenCritic: Pokopia shares first place with the indie title Lost and Found Co., though the latter has only 12 reviews compared to 78 for Nintendo’s hit.

The situation is completely different when it comes to [url=https://www.metacritic.com/browse/game/all/all/current-year/userscore/]user scores on Metacritic. There, Resident Evil Requiem holds first place by a wide margin with a 9.4, while Pokopia is in second with “only” an 8.6.

Pokemon Pokopia, released on March 5, 2026 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, is one of the biggest hits of early spring. The new entry in the franchise combines catching pocket monsters with a “cozy” life sim in the style of Animal Crossing. Demand for the game in the U.S. was so high that physical copies quickly sold out at all major retailers.
