Following the showcase of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn at Xbox Partner Preview, Eurogamer reported that Owlcat Games is using generative AI during development. PR manager Katharina Popp confirmed this — but clarified how exactly it’s being used.

We do not use AI to create assets that will end up in the game. We use it for prototyping, testing ideas, placeholders — to iterate faster.

According to Popp, all art assets, voice recordings, and text in the final version of the game will be created exclusively by humans. At the same time, at the moment of publication, the game’s Steam page did not include a disclosure about AI usage — although after this public statement, it is expected to be added.

Recent controversies around Crimson Desert, where AI placeholders accidentally made it into release, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which lost awards due to its use of AI, have clearly become lessons for the industry. Owlcat, it seems, chose not to wait for players to uncover anything on their own.

The release of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is scheduled for spring 2027, with closed beta testing starting on April 22, 2026. During today’s presentation, a new gameplay trailer was shown, and yesterday the developers revealed the companions of the main character.
