Stunlock Studios announced the end of support for V Rising — less than two years after its release.

The studio stated that “the journey to Dracula is complete in its current form,” meaning no further content updates are planned. Instead, the team is developing a new game set in the same universe — described as “the most ambitious project in the studio’s history.”

The shift isn’t due to failure, but limitations. V Rising was built on design decisions that made sense at the time but now restrict new ideas. The developers want to start fresh.

We are experimenting in ways we haven’t been able to for a long time, exploring fresh ideas unconstrained by previous limitations. We are building an architecture that can support our new and bold ambitions.

The new game promises “a world with more depth, danger, and mystery than ever before,” while still feeling familiar to fans of V Rising. However, it will be a long wait — the studio confirmed the project is in a very early stage of development, and it may take quite some time before new details are revealed.

As for V Rising, it won’t be abandoned: balance changes and bug fixes will continue as needed. The only downside is that official mod support will not be added — the engine simply isn’t suited for it at the required level. Still, the studio hinted that what they learned from exploring mod support could be applied to the new project.
