It seems that 2027 will be the most important year for fans of space RPGs, and in particular for fans of the Mass Effect series. Two similar sci-fi projects — Exodus and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn — will be released around the same time. The authors have even come up with their own name for this event.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a future third-person action RPG that is being developed in the universe of the TV series and book series The Expanse. One of the key features will be companions, each of whom belongs to one of three factions. The survival of the companions will depend on the player's actions, and the authors do not shy away from comparisons with Mass Effect.

Recently, the developers of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn from the Owlcat studio presented a gameplay trailer, emphasizing that the project will be released in the spring of 2027. The Archetype studio, responsible for Exodus, reposted their colleagues' video on social media. The developers noted that both games will be released around the same time.

«2027 is looking like a strong year for sci-fi RPGs».
— Archetype

Owlcat continued to develop the theme by suggesting a common name for the releases.

«Having one great sci-fi game is awesome, but having two is even better! Thank you guys, and good luck to both of us! Let's make Expandus real.».
— Owlcat
«Expansodus, Exopanse, Expodus, Exodanse. We'll keep working on it…».
— Archetype

In the comments, many players appreciated the studios' attention to each other's projects.

«Sweet. I think it’s kinda cool you showing love to another platform. I really love this genre of gaming so it’s great to see unity».

By the way, the day before, Eurogamer reported that Owlcat uses generative AI in development. However, the studio's PR manager confirmed this, explaining the situation.

How do you like the idea of Expandus? Which of these two games are you looking forward to the most?
