New Trailer for Starfield’s Free Lanes Update Released — Features Revealed

Bethesda has unveiled a detailed list of new features coming with the Free Lanes update for Starfield. This patch focuses on expanding exploration, improving progression, and adding new customization systems.

One of the standout changes is accelerated interplanetary travel, allowing players to move at ultra-high speeds. During these journeys, you’ll be able to freely walk around your ship, and random events — including new Interdiction encounters that can interrupt your flight — may occur along the way.

The update introduces the X-Tech resource, which is used to upgrade weapons, gear, and ships. With X-Tech, players can:

  • Redistribute legendary effects;
  • Unlock a new legendary tier for items;
  • Gain new effects (like Saboteur, Reckless, Enigmatic);
  • Upgrade ship systems (shields, engines, weapons, grav drive, and more) via the Ship Optimization Terminal.

Resource management is also getting a major overhaul:

  • Outpost containers will now provide easier access to materials;
  • A new database will combine discovered recipes, resources, and locations;
  • You’ll be able to adopt a customizable pet (Milliewhale) at your outpost.

Starborn abilities can now be upgraded without needing to start New Game+, using Quantum Essence. Plus, the new Quantum Entanglement Device lets you transfer selected items to new playthroughs.

The Free Lanes update significantly expands the game world:

  • Anchorpoint Station — a new space station with vendors and quests;
  • New ship modules, including a stealth module;
  • New equipment upgrade slots;
  • Collectible Colony War Action Heroes (27 items with stat bonuses);
  • Expanded set of planetary POIs;
  • A new elite crew member;
  • New side quests;
  • Asteroid Base — a high-end personal home;
  • Moon Jumper ground vehicle — a fast, highly mobile jump vehicle with vertical movement;
  • Additional gameplay tweaks.

Bethesda is also adding:

  • New enemy modifiers (Tank, Tricky, Martyr, and more) to make combat tougher;
  • New weapon skins (Constellation and Neon);
  • Improvements to photo mode and camera controls;
  • Enhanced ship view and landing scene options.

Bethesda is also working on the Terran Armada expansion for Starfield.

Are you looking forward to the Free Lanes update for Starfield? Planning to jump back in after the patch drops?
