The popular psychological horror Doki Doki Literature Club was removed from Google Play — the problem is in adult content

The visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from Google Play. The reason was the availability of adult content, the developers said.

The plot of Doki Doki Literature Club revolves around a student who, after being invited by his girlfriend, joins the school literature club. There, a young man meets four girls. At first, the game looks like a dating simulator, but in the second act it turns into a psychological horror. The authors touch on complex topics such as depression and death.

After being removed from Google Play, the game's developers stated that their project carried an important message about mental health. And they were able to resonate with players all over the world. The authors added that Doki Doki remains an important project, especially for those who feel isolated or abandoned. This remains the main motivation for the development of the project.

Despite the Android issues, Doki Doki Literature Club is still available on iOS, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. The developers reported that they are trying to resolve the situation with Google.

However, the authors stressed that they are simultaneously exploring alternative distribution options for the game for Android devices. They keep this in mind in case the negotiations with Google don't end successfully.

Previously, Jesus Simulator, a visual novel about the life of Jesus Christ, was removed from the PlayStation Store. The removal took place just on the day of Catholic Easter.
