A sexy heroine couldn’t save it: weak sales of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers led to the studio’s collapse — and lawsuits followed
Chinese studio Leenzee, which developed the souls-like action game Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, has effectively ceased to exist. According to GamerSky, citing sources in the Chinese internet space, the game’s director and producer Xia Siyuan was dismissed even before the Chinese New Year. The remaining employees were offered to switch to outsourcing — they refused, after which mass layoffs followed. Now, some workers are preparing lawsuits over unpaid wages.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was released on July 24, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S and faced serious issues from day one. At launch, the game peaked at 131,000 concurrent players — a decent start, but within the first week, the player count dropped by 50,000, which is considered catastrophic for a single-player game. Critics gave it a score of 74 on Metacritic, while users rated it 6.9 out of 10. The main complaints included poor optimization at launch, a weak narrative, and several controversial decisions — in particular, a patch that made bosses and NPCs unkillable triggered a wave of negative reviews in China.
According to available information, a significant amount of content had already been prepared for DLC and post-launch support — but now it will most likely never be released. Notably, Xia Siyuan, according to sources, has already registered his own company and continues working in the industry.
What do you think — did the game deserve better sales, or is it just a forgettable project that failed to stand out? Share your thoughts in the comments.
