According to well-known insider Jeff Grubb, the release of Playground Games' highly anticipated Fable reboot has reportedly been shifted. However, this doesn't necessarily mean the game is slipping out of its 2026 window.

The latest rumors suggest that the project may have been moved within Microsoft’s internal release schedule. The primary reason? Concerns over competing with the juggernaut that is GTA 6, which is currently slated for a November 2026 launch. Despite the internal shuffle, Grubb indicates that Microsoft is still aiming for a 2026 release, potentially pushing the game to the very end of the year to gain some breathing room.

During the Xbox Developer Direct back in January, Playground Games officially confirmed a 2026 launch window, specifically mentioning an "Autumn" release at the time.

The Fable reboot was first announced in 2020, though fans had to wait three years for the first substantial trailer. While it was initially rumored for a 2025 launch, the official target was eventually set for 2026.

Interestingly, back in late January, the Fable developers claimed they weren't worried about launching alongside Grand Theft Auto 6. It seems that internal strategy might be changing as the reality of a "GTA year" sets in.
