Lights, camera, action: filming for the Elden Ring movie has begun — and it could be the biggest game adaptation of 2027
Filming for the adaptation of Elden Ring has officially begun in Scotland. The project is being handled by A24 in collaboration with Bandai Namco — the same studio behind acclaimed films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The film is directed and written by Alex Garland, with George R. R. Martin and Peter Rice serving as producers. No release date has been announced yet, but it’s expected to arrive around 2027.
Garland is one of the few directors who feels like a natural fit for this kind of material. His previous works include Civil War and Ex Machina — films known for their strong visual identity and ability to handle масштаб without losing atmosphere. He also wrote the script for 28 Years Later, showing his experience with complex and layered storytelling.
The first footage from the set has already surfaced online via TikTok — showing massive set constructions of the Church of Marika built out in an open field. According to IMDb, the cast may include Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, and Kit Connor, although this has not been officially confirmed yet.
Do you think Elden Ring can even be adapted into a film — or is it a story that only works as a game? Share your thoughts in the comments.
