“Pff, noob!”: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 voice actor finally plays the game — and gets stuck at the beginning

The story of Charlie Cox and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is basically its own mini-series. Back in summer 2025, when the game was already sweeping awards and selling millions, the actor admitted at GalaxyCon that he hadn’t just failed to finish it — he hadn’t even played it at all, because he’s “not a gamer.” Fans kept congratulating him anyway, and Cox awkwardly joked: “I feel like a complete fraud.” He promised he’d fix that once he got his hands on a console. Well… he did. Kind of.

In an interview with GamesRadar+ ahead of the BAFTA Game Awards 2026, Cox said he finally launched the game — a year after release.

I’ve played a bit since then. Not the whole game — I haven’t finished it. I got through the opening, walked around, met the characters. I wasn’t very good at it.
— Charlie Cox

Cox explained that older games — FIFA 98, Mario Kart, GoldenEye 007 — were “incredibly addictive,” but didn’t really have stories. Expedition 33 feels different — more like “a movie you participate in.” As for playing his own character, Cox says he never saw Gustav as himself.

As for playing a character he himself voiced, Cox says he didn’t see Gustav as himself at all.

I didn’t think of him as me. I thought of him as Gustav.
— Charlie Cox

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released in April 2025 and collected over 500 awards, becoming one of the most decorated games ever. A full playthrough takes 50–100 hours, so Cox still has time to reach the ending. Especially now that games are no longer just a curiosity for him: he recently confirmed he’s working on another game project — a “much more serious” one.

Did you finish Clair Obscur — or drop it halfway through? Let’s hear it in the comments.
