A surprise free giveaway has just kicked off on Steam. This time, gamers can add Nocturnal to their libraries—a 2023 release that has earned a 90% positive rating. Some players are even calling it the “spiritual successor to Prince of Persia.”

Nocturnal is described as a fast-paced action-platformer where you play as Ardeshir, a warrior of the Eternal Flame, returning to the island of Nahran after a long absence. The island has fallen into chaos due to a mysterious Mist, and you’ll need to wield your flaming sword to uncover its secrets and restore order.

Gameplay centers around interacting with fire: your sword’s flames affect the environment, allowing you to ignite objects, activate mechanisms, and battle creatures spawned by the Mist. The Mist itself is dynamic, reacting to your actions and the spread of fire, making every encounter and exploration feel fresh and unpredictable. As you progress, you’ll collect ash to offer at Phoenix statues, unlocking new abilities and upgrades to help you on your journey.

The game offers a compact, focused experience set on a small island, with all elements tied to a central mechanic. Playthroughs last just a few hours, emphasizing intensity and concise design.
