Like hot croissants — Clair Obscur has sold 8 million copies
Sandfall Interactive has announced that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 8 million copies worldwide within a year of its release. To celebrate the game’s anniversary, the developers released a patch with new hairstyles and also launched discounts.
We’re absolutely thrilled and, honestly, still a bit overwhelmed to have sold 8 million copies of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Thank you so much to everyone who played, created art, shared, streamed, discussed, and supported this game!
Sandfall admitted they are still amazed by the scale of success of their debut title: back in October 2025, sales stood at 5 million copies, and now the figure has grown by another 3 million. To mark the anniversary, the team also released a small free patch. The main addition is a set of festive hairstyles for all playable characters. The update also fixed several issues, including problems with collisions, rest points, and the display of certain outfits.
The developers also launched a sale to celebrate the anniversary. On Steam, Expedition 33 is currently available with a 24% discount.
For Sandfall Interactive, the success of Expedition 33 has become a true phenomenon. The French RPG launched on April 24, 2025, and has since won not only players’ hearts but also numerous awards. For example, it won trophies at five of the industry’s most prestigious ceremonies: Golden Joystick Awards 2025, The Game Awards 2025, DICE Awards 2026, Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) 2026, and BAFTA Games Awards 2026.
At the same time, players shouldn’t expect major DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 anytime soon. Earlier, Sandfall shared a celebratory artwork and explicitly asked fans not to treat the anniversary as a hint at a big expansion announcement. However, the franchise already has plans beyond games: even before release, it was reported that a film adaptation is in development, although details remain scarce.
Do you think Expedition 33 deserves to be considered one of the best RPGs of its generation?
