The story of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will differ from the original

Alexander Pushkov

New story scenes will appear in the remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. This was revealed by Darby McDevitt (Darby McDevitt), the lead writer of the original Black Flag and one of the writers behind Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Unity, Origins, and Valhalla.

According to McDevitt, he wrote two new scenes for Resynced and revised one existing scene in the main storyline. Moreover, one of the new scenes impressed him so much that it now ranks among his personal top five favorite moments from Black Flag.

I hope you’ll like it too. You’ll wonder why it wasn’t there originally. The reason is simple — I came up with it only recently!

Ubisoft officially unveiled Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced a few days ago. This is not a remaster but a full remake, “rebuilt from the ground up” on a new version of the Anvil engine. The game promises upgraded visuals, a revamped combat system, and improved parkour.

Judging by the first details, Ubisoft is not planning to radically rewrite Edward Kenway’s story, but rather expand it with new scenes and story arcs. A comparison video has already appeared online, where a creator known as ElAnalistaDeBits compares the visuals of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with the original Assassin's Creed Black Flag (2013). The video showcases various elements, including melee combat, ship gameplay, exploration, and naval battles.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set to release on July 9, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Ubisoft is also working on a TV series based on the franchise, which will be set in Rome.

The original Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was released in 2013 and is still considered one of the best entries in the series. That’s why any changes to the story will likely raise questions among fans — especially when it comes to new scenes written by the original writer.

Do you want to see a reworked Black Flag story, or should the classic be left untouched?
