Avalanche job listings hint at multiplayer and Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy 2 — and fans are already uneasy
Avalanche Software — the studio behind Hogwarts Legacy — has posted several job listings that point to major changes in the sequel. Among them is a senior engineer role for a “new online multiplayer RPG,” mentioning matchmaking, server infrastructure, PvP, and cross-platform support. None of the listings explicitly name Hogwarts Legacy 2 — but given that Avalanche isn’t publicly working on anything else, the implications are hard to ignore.
Other listings from Warner Bros. reference “complex branching narratives” and a “deep understanding of the Wizarding World,” which leans more toward a single-player experience. This has led to speculation that two projects may be in development: a full story-driven sequel and a separate online spin-off. The former will likely be announced first.
Quidditch remains the biggest missing piece from the original. Hogwarts Legacy didn’t include it due to the simultaneous release of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions — a standalone title that ultimately failed to meet Warner Bros.’ expectations. Now, based on these listings, Quidditch could return within the franchise — potentially as competitive online matches.
Fan reaction has been cautious. The original was widely praised for its single-player, go-at-your-own-pace design, and the prospect of live-service elements raises concerns. That said, Warner Bros. has clear incentives to move in this direction: the first game sold over 40 million copies but received no major DLC post-launch. All resources now appear to be focused on the sequel.
An announcement is expected between 2026 and 2027 — potentially tied to the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series, set to premiere around Christmas 2026.
