Actor from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 feared the reviews — he had just worked on one of the worst-rated games ever
Rich Keeble — who voiced Monoco, the turtle boss François, and several other characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — revealed at Game On Expo 2026 how nervous he was ahead of the game’s release, and explained why.
Before Expedition, Keeble worked on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum — the infamous 2023 title from Daedalic Entertainment that was heavily criticized by both players and reviewers. He voiced the Mouth of Sauron. The game received zeros and ones on Metacritic and went down as one of the worst releases of the decade.
I got trolled online for various promo work and for the Gollum game. So I started to get a bit nervous about Expedition 33. I remember my jaw dropping — in much the same way it did when I was reading the nines and tens for Expedition, just like when I was reading the ones and twos for Gollum. And those occasional zeros.
Keeble admitted he wasn’t prepared for how warmly Expedition 33 would be received. According to him, Ben Starr also didn’t expect such a reaction — Keeble even called him the night before release for moral support.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched in April 2025 and sold over 8 million copies, became Game of the Year for many outlets, and is now considered one of the highest-rated RPGs in Metacritic history.
