Cache returns to Counter-Strike 2 — seven years of waiting are finally over

Last night, April 29, Valve released an update for Counter-Strike 2 — and Cache is finally back. The map is now available in Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes.

Cache was created by Shawn 'FMPONE' Snelling and first appeared in CS:GO as part of Operation Breakout in 2014, eventually becoming part of the Active Duty pool. In 2019, it was removed in favor of Vertigo. Since then, fans have been waiting seven years for its return.

Back in January 2026, the official CS2 account replied to a post from Natus Vincere with a simple “It’s cooking.” On April 22, a banner on X showed the first screenshot of the reworked T-side spawn — making it clear the map was close. Now, it’s finally here.

Cache becomes the fourth classic map rebuilt for CS2 — following Inferno, Train, and Overpass. The Source 2 engine brings improved lighting, updated textures, and modern rendering. The layout remains familiar, with tweaks to angles, cover, and smoke behavior.

Alongside Cache, the update also added a small Easter egg on Dust II — the Mid Box (Xbox) now reveals a previously hidden jump spot. This time, intentionally.

The big question remains: will Cache replace a map in the Active Duty pool — and if so, which one?
