Denuvo strikes back: PC gamers may be forced to connect to the internet once every 14 days to verify their license
It seems that the developers of the anti-piracy protection Denuvo have prepared their response to the numerous hacks of games that have recently occurred almost simultaneously with the release. It is likely that gamers will have to confirm their license every 14 days to continue playing, according to Game Rant.
If the information is correct, then the publisher 2K Games has already begun cooperation with Denuvo on the issue of new protection technology. Some studio projects will automatically undergo digital authentication every 14 days to ensure that players are using a legitimate copy.
In practice, it will look like this: a special token will be added to the player's account, which must be replenished once every 14 days. If the check is not completed within the specified period, the gamer will not be able to launch the game until the condition is met. It is assumed that such a system will require a stable Internet connection, even for those who only play single-player games and 2K modes.
It is worth noting that so far everything described above is just a rumor. They are not supported by license agreements or individual game pages on Steam.
It's hard to say which studio games might fall under the new requirements. According to insiders, the innovations will definitely affect NBA 2K25, NBA 2K26 and Marvel's Midnight Suns. However, you need to understand that 2K Games is the publisher of a huge number of popular titles, like Mafia: The Old Country, Sid Meier's Civilization 7 and Borderlands 4.
It is likely that progress in the field of hacking games is pushing developers and publishers to make such decisions. Hackers have recently hacked absolutely all the games that had Denuvo.
After that, Denuvo developers said they were already working on updated security versions for games affected by the crawls. Gamers were also promised that the increased measures would not affect performance.
Do you think the studios will decide on such measures? Share your opinion in the comments.
