Production on the final installment of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is moving forward without a hitch. In a recent interview, trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that development on Part 3 is "on schedule and proceeding within the established timeframe."

Hamaguchi expressed the team's confidence in delivering a worthy conclusion to the ambitious project. He also noted that preparations for the official reveal are "steadily progressing," hinting that fans might not have to wait much longer for the first concrete details.

While staying tight-lipped on specific plot points, the director emphasized that the team is focused on crafting a comprehensive and deep experience rather than simply "rushing to finish the story." This aligns with the trajectory of the previous entries, which have consistently grown in scope—moving from the focused, linear design of the first game to the vast open world of Rebirth.

Hamaguchi described the trilogy's development as a constant push to expand boundaries. Rather than sticking to a safe formula, the developers are using the finale to further scale game mechanics and world design, aiming to fully realize a vision more than a decade in the making.

Additionally, Hamaguchi touched upon the challenges of porting Rebirth to other platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2. According to the director, adapting the game required overhauling the rendering, lighting, and data-streaming systems to ensure stable performance in both handheld and docked modes. Despite these technical adjustments, the core content will remain identical.

In related news, Square Enix recently announced Evercold, a major new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.
