The developers of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced held a Q&A session on Reddit, where they shared plenty of interesting details about the upcoming remake.

One of the most discussed changes is Ubisoft’s decision to remove the ability to use the hidden blade as a primary weapon in combat. In Resynced, Edward Kenway’s main weapons will be dual swords, while the hidden blade will only be used in contextual finisher animations.

The decision has upset some fans. In the comments, players complain that Ubisoft is removing one of the most recognizable mechanics of classic Assassin’s Creed games, while also worrying that combat will become less varied because of it. Some fans hope that the hidden blade will still be added as a full-fledged weapon after release. The developers also noted that Resynced’s combat system has been significantly reworked: players will now have to react more quickly to the situation and use different techniques depending on the type of enemy.

On the other hand, the developers confirmed the return of many elements from the original. Resynced will retain social stealth, other pirates will hunt the protagonist, and legendary ships, tavern mini-games, all side activities, and all costumes from the original game will also return. The map will keep its original size — 16 by 16 kilometers — but the world will become denser thanks to new islands and additional locations in cities.

Kenway’s Fleet will also return, but the mini-game will now be fully integrated into Black Flag Resynced itself: it can be accessed from the hideout or the captain’s cabin, with no need to use a smartphone. Another notable change is that the mini-map has been removed from the naval combat and exploration interface, replaced by a compass.

Earlier, the game director of Resynced said that the game’s parkour system will be built on the foundations of the modern entries in the series — Shadows and Valhalla — which also sparked criticism from fans.

A comparison video has already appeared online, where a creator known as ElAnalistaDeBits compares the visuals of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with the original Assassin's Creed Black Flag (2013). The video showcases various elements, including melee combat, ship gameplay, exploration, and naval battles.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set to release on July 9, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Ubisoft is also working on a TV series based on the franchise, which will be set in Rome.
