The latest installment in the iconic series from 4A Games is gaining momentum at an impressive pace — Metro 2039 has already surpassed 1 million wishlists just two weeks after its official reveal.

The developers thanked fans for their support, admitting they never expected such a rapid response following the announcement: “We are blown away to reach this milestone so quickly after the reveal. Thank you for your incredible support, we cannot wait to invite you into the Metro this winter.”

The new project promises a return to the series’ roots, focusing on a grim atmosphere, a deep single-player narrative, and classic survival in the tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow.

Metro 2039 is set decades after the nuclear catastrophe, with players taking on the role of the mysterious Wanderer as they face a new threat on the surface.

The game is slated for release in winter 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

By the way, Metro 2033 celebrated its 15th anniversary last year. To mark the occasion, we put together a special feature looking back at what made the original game so memorable.

Do you think Metro 2039 will manage to capture the series’ signature dark atmosphere?
